Last night I painted this Okra.

Than I put it in a stew (the vegetable, not the painting). I know. I know. I am so legit domestic.

She Sure is {Sketchy} - The Daily Scribble

My earliest memory of scribble drawing was on a NYC sidewalk with a jumbo stick of pink chalk. The crack in the concrete wanted to be a nurse eating a hot dog. Needless to say this drew a crowd of all ages. I was maybe three. I've used Scribble drawings to jump-start my creative ideas ever since. Here's the first of 2012

I swear at this point in the drawing I heard Ralph Fiennes whisper 'Kill the spare' in my ear.

I played hooky on Tuesday (best decision of my life)and headed to the Bronx with my imported EuroFamBam for a full day of sketching, shutterbugging, hiliarity and searching for the park's bathrooms.

There were touching stories of mothers who do that annoying thing to show that they love you, you know, where they use their spit to smudge dirt off your face?  There were friends who overstep their boundaries. It was great. A microcosm of what makes the world go round.

We covered mad ground and we rode the monorail. I, for the second time in my life, laid eyes upon the red panda, so yes, it was perfect. Oh and I drew some stuff too.

Illustration Friday - Lesson

Once upon a time I was told this story.

There once was a crow. He sat way up on a branch with nothing to do but enjoy himself and feel the wind in his face.

Along came a rabbit. The rabbit looked up at the crow and asked,
"May I be like you and sit all day doing nothing too?"

The crow looked down and sung out
"Why not? It's of little consequence to me."
So the rabbit sat down and commenced doing nothing
but enjoying himself and feeling the wind in his face.
Along came a fox.

The fox ate the rabbit."

---Fin.

Lesson: To be sitting and doing nothing but enjoying oneself, one must be sitting very high up.

I liked these little sketches enough to color them. That's a very tall compliment, little sketches. Congrats.

Pantone's Color of the Year 2011

Every year I look forward to December for five reasons.
Since Monday I have been obsessing over reason number 4....
What will the Pantone color of next year BE?!
I was almost hit by a PANTONE® 14-0848 Mimosa colored cab while
contemplating this as I crossed Broadway the morning of the big announcement.


When i got back from lunch yesterday I got the call.  Luckily, Best Friend @DuchessOJustice was on it. Keeper of my heart and best interests in the absence of anyone with testosrone, she linked me accordingly. I've been seeing through Paris-toned spectacles ever since.

This is the song I sung this morning while thinking of Honeysuckle.

Last year, when Pantone bent to my will, and chose the most beautiful color on the planet for 2010, I knew a moment of magic had happened.  All year, whenever I found myself bathed in 15-5519 I would close my eyes, do a slow circle and make a wish.  That's pretty much how I found myself in Nassau, a lot of Turquoise wishes just came true. 

It is beautifully painful for me to let go of that flawless, perfect tone of  two thousand and ten. I have elected that a new 18-2120 gloss for my pout will mark the transition with a satisfactory amount of bliss and respect. With that I'm off to Sephora. First Honeysuckle wish of the year comes true!

I cross sectioned, vectorized and turned it into some surface design)
